Metal halide aquarium lighting is very popular, as it is the best way of providing light intensity in deeper tanks, especially for reef aquariums with coral that are in excess of 36 inches in depth.
With metal halide aquarium lighting, it is also possible to recreate "glitter"
lines, that occur naturally in the sea, as surface waves act
as a lens for sunlight. Disturbances to the surface water
in an aquarium together with metal halide lighting replicates
this effect in a way that cannot be done with fluorescent
lighting.
